An "Outside/Inside" portrait tasks the creator to truly consider how the subject appears and is recognized versus the things that more abstractly represent them.
My subject, Gerard Way, is most notable for his work as frontman singer-songwriter for American rock band My Chemical Romance. The band had strict aesthetics inspired by horror movies and was a large influence on the "emo" subculture which is highlighted in the left "Outside" portrait.
When considering the "Inside" right portrait I looked to his passions and his personality. Way is a fairly introverted individual and thrives when he is not the center of attention. For the past several years he has delved deep into his work outside music which is comics. Way has created many notable titles such as "The Umbrella Academy" as well as managing his own imprint at DC Comics.
